Introducing WAP Circuit Switched Data (CSD)

WAP CSD allows you to access modified Internet sites with your mobile phone.

Features and Benefits

WAP (CSD) is an Optus service which allows ‘WAP’ compatible GSM mobile phones to access modified sites of the Internet. WAP (CSD) is a time based service as opposed to a content or ‘package’ based service. This means you are charged for the time you spend connected to ‘WAP’ sites, not how much information you browse.

‘WAP’ (Wireless Application Protocol) is a mobile Internet technology that allows companies to publish information on the Internet in a format accessible by mobile phones. These modified Internet sites are accessed via ‘WAP’ browsers installed within ‘WAP’ enabled mobile phones.

  • Check your email and use the organiser whenever and wherever you need to.
  • Receive Finance, News, Sports, Shopping, Lifestyle, Entertainment and Weather information to keep you up to date.
  • Enjoy the convenience of having text based website access in the palm of your hand.
  • Benefit from no frills text based information, giving you the details you require fast without having to sort through images and banners like a normal website.
  • Access these services anywhere within Optus digital coverage areas, at any time of the day.
  • Connect securely for safe banking and trading.
  • Take advantage of the numerous WAP features.

Activating WAP (CSD) on a Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung or Siemens mobile phone

If you have purchased a Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung or Siemens mobile phone we are able to supply you the ‘WAP’ settings to get you going.

  • Contact us requesting the WAP (CSD) service to be activated, telling us the make and model of your mobile phone.
  • Customers who have a Nokia or Ericsson phone will be asked to send an SMS to ‘8888’ quoting the following: “set <make of mobile phone> bearer secure”, for example “set Ericsson GPRS secure”. Sending an SMS to ‘8888’ costs standard SMS send prices and 66 cents to receive the OTAP. Alternatively you can send the manual provisioning instructions out to the customer’s fax or email via the document gateway.
  • If the customer has a mobile phone other than an Ericsson or a Nokia you can send the customer the manual provisioning instructions out to the customer’s fax or email via the Document Delivery Gateway. Customers can also be transferred to the manufacturer of their mobile phone for help in provisioning WAP.
    • If you have a Nokia mobile phone it will prompt you to ‘Save’, ‘View’ or ‘Delete the message. Select ‘Save’ and turn your mobile phone off and then on again.
    • If you have an Ericsson mobile phone it will prompt you to ‘Install’, or ‘Discard’ the message. Select ‘Install’ and turn your mobile phone off and then on again.
  • Alternatively we can send the manual provisioning instructions to your fax or email address. For further assistance with setting up your mobile phone please contact the mobile phone manufacturer.
  • Customers with any other make of mobile phone can have the manual provisioning instructions sent to a fax or email address allowing them to provision the mobile phone for WAP. For further assistance with setting up your mobile phone please contact the mobile phone manufacturer.
  • It may take up to 24 hours for your WAP (CSD) service to become active.

Activating WAP (CSD) on all other makes of mobile phones

Unfortunately we are unable to supply the automatic ‘WAP’ settings to these mobile phones.

  • Once we have allocated you a WAP (CSD) dedicated number and have initiated the activation process, we will give you the manual ‘WAP’ settings to be saved to your mobile phone.
