Activating this Service

To activate your Digital Fax Service, please visit our website for online customer service or contact us on our Customer Care number.

  • Consult your mobile phone user manual to check that your mobile phone is Digital Data compatible.

Using this Service

You will need a compatible computer Fax Program loaded onto your PC or PDA and mobile phone specific modem software to link your PC or PDA to your Digital Fax service.

  • You will need a computer Fax Program (such as Winfax) to receive Digital Faxes to your PC or PDA via your mobile phone.
    • For specific hints and help using your Fax Program with your mobile phone, some mobile phone manufacturers offer user guides on their websites. For example: www.nokia.com provides specific guides to help you link your model of mobile phone to one of several Fax Programs available on today’s market.
  • You will also need modem software specific to your mobile phone model. If this has not been provided (on compact disk) with the mobile phone at point of sale, software can generally be obtained by:
    • Downloading modem software specific to your mobile phone from the mobile phone manufacturer’s website. Go to the website and search by mobile phone model and be ready to download the software to your PC or PDA.
    • If you do not have Internet access, we suggest you ask a friend or colleague to download the driver software for you, or go to a computer store or bureau where they can download the software onto CD for you at a small price.
  • Cable or infrared ports provided must connect the PC or PDA and mobile phone to each other.

Receiving Digital Faxes

Receive faxes using your Fax Program and mobile phone.

  • For specific instructions on how to receive Digital Faxes using your mobile phone, please consult your mobile phone and/or your personal computer, PDA and software user manuals.
  • When you receive an incoming Digital Fax call (it will be displayed as such on the screen of your mobile phone) link your personal computer or PDA to your mobile phone immediately to receive the Fax.
  • Do this by placing your infrared ports close for connection, or by linking your mobile phone to your PC or PDA by cable.
  • Once linked, the Fax Program on your PC or PDA will pick up the Digital Fax call and display your received fax on your computer PC or PDA screen.
  • Once your received fax is displayed, it can be read, saved or printed as required.
  • To receive Digital Fax calls, you must be linked or close to linking your mobile phone to your PC or PDA. If your equipment is not linked or you are unable to take a Digital Fax call when it comes in, let it ring out or reject the call. The call will be listed on your mobile phone screen as a missed call. If a Digital Fax call is missed, it will need to be re-sent to your Digital Fax service.

Sending Digital Faxes

Send Digital Faxes using your Fax Program and mobile phone.

  • For specific instructions on how to send Digital Faxes using your mobile phone and PC or PDA, please consult your mobile phone and/or your personal computer, PDA and software user manuals.
  • Create a fax by using the Fax Program installed on your PC or PDA.
  • Before sending Digital Faxes, make sure your mobile phone is linked to your personal computer or PDA via infrared or cable.

Frequently Asked Questions about this Service

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Digital Fax service. For assistance please use the "Contact Us" section of our website or call our Customer Care number.

I’m having difficulty sending or receiving Digital Faxes.

  • Is your Fax Program set up correctly? Some mobile phone manufacturer websites offer guides to linking and using your Fax Program with your model of mobile phone.
  • For specific instructions on how to send or receive Digital Faxes using your mobile phone, please consult your mobile phone and/or your personal computer, PDA and Fax Program software user manuals.

Do I need a special mobile phone to use the Digital Fax Service?

  • You will need an Optus approved Digital Data/Fax compatible mobile phone.

Do I get another phone number for my Fax line so I can put it on my business cards?

  • Yes, you will be given another mobile phone number for your Digital Fax service and although this can be used as a Fax contact number in your advertising, your mobile phone and PC or PDA will have to be linked at the time the fax is received to be able to read, print or save it.

Now that I have a Digital Fax service, can I use this service for Digital Data as well?

  • Yes, you can. Please refer to our Digital Data Factsheet for details.

I’m having difficulty linking my PC/PDA and my mobile phone. What could be wrong?

  • Unfortunately we cannot help you with computer or computer software problems. Please consult your personal computer, PDA and software user manuals.
  • Check the connecting data cables for kinks or damage.
  • If using infrared make certain both ports are clean, there are no obstructions between the PC/PDA and the mobile phone and that the equipment is close enough to receive signals.

Can I use my Digital Fax service whilst International Roaming?

  • As Digital Fax is a network dependant function, this will depend on the overseas network you are using at the time.

I’m using my Digital Fax service to access the Digital Data service, but I’m not receiving any faxes!

  • When you use your Digital Fax Service to access the Internet, you are dialling out from your mobile phone service, which means you are making a call. To receive faxes, your Digital Fax service needs to be clear. This means you will need to terminate your Digital Data call in order to receive Digital Faxes.
