Digital Data allows you to connect your compatible mobile phone to a Personal Computer or Personal Data Assistant (PDA) to gain access to data networks and the Internet.

Digital Data allows you to connect your compatible mobile phone to a Personal Computer or Personal Data Assistant (PDA) so you can access data networks, and the Internet.

  • Send and receive emails all over the world. (Dependent on network and roaming coverage.)
  • Connect to your home or office network.
  • Get mobile by accessing Digital Data via your digital mobile phone anywhere, anytime.
  • Read faxes, email and bulletin boards using your mobile phone as a modem.
  • Connect to your LAN (Local Area Network) anywhere in Australia within Optus Mobile Digital coverage.
  • Go to any Internet Service Provider and use your Digital Data Service to access the World Wide Web.


Activating this Service 

To activate your Digital Data service, please visit our website for online customer service or contact us on our Customer Care number.

  • Consult your mobile phone user manual to check that your mobile phone is Digital Data compatible.


Using this Service 

For specific instructions on how to access Digital Data using your mobile phone, please consult your mobile phone and/or your personal computer, PDA and software user manuals.

  • You will need software specific to your mobile phone model. If this has not been provided (on compact disk) with the mobile phone at point of sale, software can generally be obtained by:
    • Downloading software specific to your mobile phone from the manufacturer’s website. Go to the website and search by mobile phone model and be ready to download the software to your PC or PDA.
    • If you do not have Internet access, we suggest you ask a friend or colleague to download the software for you, or go to a computer store or bureau where they can download the software onto CD for you at a small price.
  • Cable or infrared ports provided must connect the PC or PDA and mobile phone to each other.
  • Ensure all equipment is fully charged or plugged in and switched on.

Cancelling the Digital Data service  

If you find you no longer need your Digital Data service, please visit our website for online customer service or call us on our Customer Care number for assistance.



Costs of Using this Service 

  • Digital Data services are not included within your monthly-included call allowances.
  • This service has a monthly subscription fee of $5.50, GST inclusive.
  • Local Digital Data calls (under 165 km) are charged at 23 cents per 30 seconds or part thereof.
  • Long-distance Digital Data calls (over 165 km) are charged at 34 cents per 30 seconds or part thereof.

Viewing Digital Data Service charges on your Bill  

Your Digital Data Service monthly subscription is shown under ‘Charges this bill’ along with your mobile service access fees and other monthly charges.

All Digital Data services used via your mobile service will be shown on your Bill in a separate listing. The list is headed ‘Digital Data Service (for your mobile service number)’ in bold type and underneath will list each Digital Data session with date, time, duration and cost of the session.
